Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, Rolla, would like to inform the public of upcoming testing for the position of trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. There are 89 openings statewide, eight of which are within the five-county area of Troop I.
[What's in it for me? Financially?]
The beginning salary for a trooper is $36,408.
Written and fitness testing for the position of trooper will take place at 10 a.m., on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Waynesville Senior High School, 200 G.W. Lane, Waynesville, MO 65583. Interested persons are asked to report to Waynesville High School to take the 1 1/2 hour written examination. Please enter through the front doors and follow the signs to classroom #112.
[Let's get physical!]:
Immediately following the written examination, candidates will participate in the fitness for duty assessment. The fitness for duty assessment includes pushups, sit-ups, vertical jump, trigger pull, 1 1/2 mile run, and 300-meter run.
The successful candidates will be eligible to continue in the selection process for the 90th Recruit Class, scheduled to begin training at the Patrol Law Enforcement Academy on July 1, 2009.
Prior to testing, interested individuals must apply online at http://www.motrooper.com/. Applicants who have questions regarding the process should call 1-800-796-7000 and speak with a recruiter.
[Note to aspiring troopers. Remember the advice my cousin Kevin gave me when the U.S. Navy interviewed me for my ROTC scholarship: "You never did nothing wrong. You don't drink, you don't smoke, you don't cuss. You had the sweetest voice in the church choir."]
The Patrol will offer additional test dates scheduled for October 27 through November 7, 2008, at the Missouri State Highway Patrol General Headquarters in Jefferson City, MO.
Applicants will be notified regarding their eligibility to continue in the Trooper Section Process by November 24, 2008. The remaining phases of the Trooper Selection Process will occur in Jefferson City, MO.
